About Lany K.

I invite you to let my music heal and empower you, like it does for me.

As a young adult, I faced depression and stopped playing music. By age 30, my life took a shift when I became a mother, lost my father and ended a relationship while losing my job, and I realized I had to change my life for myself and my daughter. Music is always an escape for me and a medium to release my feelings. I began to receive encouragement from others to write songs. So I began writing songs and took singing lessons from Linda Estelle, Shirma Rouse en Adriana Romijn. Writing songs gave my story a voice and I found a new way to express my feelings, process it and embrace my story. And now I'm able to share it.

My name is Marlene Amsdorf (Lany K.), born in Amsterdam in 1987. I was exposed to a diverse range of music at a young age thanks to my parents and older sisters. Music from Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Lenny Kravitz, Aaliyah, alongside classical pieces from Bach and opera and more, filled my childhood.

At the age of 8 my mother encouraged me to start playing piano. At 11, my family moved to Purmerend, and I began taking piano lessons from Florand van Ingen and Billy Maluw, where I discovered my love for pop music and my admiration for Alicia Keys.

My songwriting tackles diverse topics from self-love, relationships to loneliness and empowerment in an attempt to uplift people. My musical inspirations include Alicia Keys, Aretha Franklin, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Sia and Jessie J. Their powerfull voices, beautifull lyrics and music arrangements are very inspiring.

Currently, I'm working on my first EP. You will hear my love for piano, soul, gospel and r&b. I create music that speaks to life's hardships and hopefully provides a motivational boost.
